The Cisco Aironet 4800 Series AP is a high-performance device that requires a significant amount of power (up to 31W for full functionality).2 While the AP can sometimes operate in a reduced mode using 802.3at (PoE+ which provides 25.5 max), its full feature set, including the Multigigabit (mGig) port speeds and USB functionality, requires the higher power delivered by Cisco Universal Power over Ethernet (UPOE) or the standardized version, IEEE 802.3bt (which provides up to 90W at the PSE, well exceeding the AP's maximum need).
