Appropriate translation and adaptation of language in tests is critical to avoid bias and ensure cultural relevance. Language needs to be translated appropriately for cultural relevance so that items are not misunderstood or culturally inappropriate, which could invalidate results and disadvantage test-takers from different backgrounds.
