D. if you choose A then when an applicant is deleted the position will be deleted as well.

The requirement is that only info related to the applicant must be deleted, that is why D makes sense. With D you can create a junction Object "Applications" with Applicant and Positions as masters. Once you delete application or applicant the users data will be deleted, but positions will remain.
