Your customer has deployed two datacenters running a virtualized environment based on HPE Synergy. HPE Nimble storage protected by Veeam. and HPE StoreOnce appliances.
They run backup jobs to local NAS-based backup targets al night and run created replication fobs to replicate the backup data afterwards to the backup target In the other site.
The customer is concerned about the impact or replication jobs on the network bandwidth between the two sites, and wants your recommendations on how to optimize the replication traffic between the two sites.

Solution: Deploy additional Veeam Gateway Server functions to allow extension of available bandwidth to the backup targets.

" Network bandwidth utilization
This is important for local backups over a LAN and even more important for backup and replication
from remote sites over a WAN. Veeam WAN Accelerators can be used, in some situations, to reduce
bandwidth requirements for backup copies and VM replication. A more efficient process to reduce
network bandwidth requirements is to use source-side deduplication when writing for HPE StoreOnce
based backup repositories. Using a local Veeam gateway server writing to a remote HPE StoreOnce
System dramatically reduces the network bandwidth requirements for backups and copies over a
WAN."
Additionally, a gateway server is REQUIRED when using shared folder ( NAS ) backup target:
A gateway server is an auxiliary backup infrastructure component that “bridges” the backup server and
backup repository. The gateway server is required if you deploy the following types of backup repositories
in the backup infrastructure:
• Shared folder backup repositories
• HPE StoreOnce deduplicating storage appliance
