Exp: VIP Mode
In VIP Mode, you can designate a room or a single segment as the VIP of the meeting. Depending on your
configuration, the VIP either remains visible to all endpoints that are designated as Viewer or becomes
visible again after an active speaker finishes speaking. For triple-segment endpoints, the VIP appears in
the center segment.
Follow these guidelines to successfully configure a meeting in VIP Mode. To configure a meeting to
operate in VIP Mode, go to Manage > Active Meetings.
* VIP Mode can be enabled only during an active meeting (see Table 5-2 for information about enabling
VIP Mode from the GUI).

Note VIP Mode is not currently supported in network multipoint meetings.
If the VIP uses a CTS 3xxx, you must specify whether the entire room switches in or only the center
segment (see Table 5-2 for information about configuring a CTS 3xxx from the GUI).
* You must set all other endpoints in the meeting to Viewer or NA (see Table 5-2 for information about
configuring other endpoints as Viewer or NA from the GUI).
* When you check the Lock box, all endpoints that are set to Viewer always see the VIP regardless of who
is talking in the meeting. If you do not check the Lock box, all endpoints set to Viewer see the VIP switch in
as long as an overlapping segment is not talking. Any endpoints set to NA have default switching behavior
(see Table 5-2 for information about the Lock checkbox in the GUI).
* To change the default settings for the VIP Mode timers, the administrator must enter the following
commands in the CTMS administrative CLI:
- To set the amount of time someone must speak to become the active speaker during a meeting:
set damping vip {fast | medium | slow}
Fast is.5 to 1.5 seconds, medium is 1.5 to 2.5 seconds, and slow is 2.5 to 3.5 seconds.
Note This setting includes the amount of time that someone must speak to switch out the VIP (if the VIP is
not locked on).
- To set the amount of time meeting participant must speak to override the VIP source:
set damping override {fast | medium | slow}
Fast is.5 to 1.5 seconds, medium is 1.5 to 2.5 seconds, slow is 2.5 to 3.5 seconds.

Note The set damping command is a global command and will change the switching time for all meetings.
* VIP Mode can be enabled during a static meeting, but the meeting can dynamically transition to a static/
network multipoint meeting, then back to a static meeting. If this scenario occurs, the VIP functionality will
be disabled and remain disabled even if the meeting transitions back to a static meeting. If desired, you
can reenable VIP Mode as described in Table 5-2.

Note VIP Mode, Auto Lecture Mode, and Boardroom Mode cannot be enabled simultaneously for the
same meeting. You can enable only one mode at a time.
